Our Sunday School meets 12.00 – 12.40 – immediately after the morning worship.
We commence with a short prayer, followed by a hymn or two and then the children repeat their memory texts before a short talk from the Sunday School leader. The children then split into classes for the main lessons. At present there are two classes, this varies depending on the number of children and their age and ability. There was a time when there was only one class, another time there were four classes.
The Sunday School aims to provide Bible teaching for school-age children who can sit and listen to simply explained Bible account. Children can be admitted into the Sunday school the school term after their fourth birthday, and normally continue in the Sunday School until the age of sixteen.
There is no formal curriculum but, at present, the younger class are using a resource from the Mayflower Christian Bookshop which includes a Biblical account explained for primary school age children with an associated art activity, recently the subject has been the ten commandments. From time to time the teachers may take a break from a particular theme to cover a topic of particular relevance like Harvest Thanksgiving or Bible teaching about Halloween.
The lessons for the older class look at a variety of Biblical accounts with the aim of providing some application for older children. Recent themes have been the Judges and lessons from some of the Old Testament Kings.
Normally on the second Sunday of the month, our Pastor will take a Sunday School lesson for all the children. On the Sunday before Christmas, an open Sunday School is held where the children read Bible passages relating to the coming of the Lord Jesus and gifts are presented to the children.
We have a Child safeguarding policy, and all who teach or support have an enhanced DBS check.
