A Brief Summary of Our Beliefs
Our Beliefs are entirely derived from the Holy Scriptures alone and are as described in the doctrines of historic Christianity, which together with our distinctives are set out in the Gospel Standard Articles of Faith.
Our Pastor is teaching a series of “Foundations” Bible Studies going through the great Bible Doctrines of our Faith which are available here.
A very brief summary is as follows:
- We believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God. We believe that every word is true and trustworthy, and that it is our only authority for faith and practise.
- We believe that God is Holy and that we are all sinners deserving of God’s condemnation, but that the Lord Jesus Christ who is truly God and truly man, died to save His people and thus redeem them from this condemnation. This is the good news of the Gospel, which we preach.
- We believe that anyone who from their heart truly confesses their sin and places their trust in the Lord Jesus by grace, is saved with an everlasting salvation.
- We are Calvinists, that is, we believe the Bible teaches that Salvation is by God’s Grace alone, as expressed by the great reformer, John Calvin, back in 1536. This is where our name “Particular” derives from – the doctrine of “Particular Redemption” – that Christ died for His own or “particular people”
- We are Baptists: we believe that it is the command of the Lord Jesus Christ that believers are to be baptised by complete immersion in water, as a sign of their love and obedience to Him. This is “Believer’s Baptism”
- We believe in “Restricted Communion” – that is the Communion Service or Lord’s Supper is only for those who have joined our church as baptised believers.
- We believe that worship should be reverent and worthy of God. We therefore adopt a traditional style of worship consisting of Hymns, Bible reading, Preaching and Prayer.
